On a field trip to the library, you can expect the following:
A short introduction to our library and our children's librarian
A brief explanation of what a public library is, who we serve, and what we offer, as well as a few minutes for questions
A story in the story circle read by the children's librarian
A tour of the children's section and a brief description of each area (picture books, chapter books, nonfiction books, introduction to the catalog, etc.)
A discussion of library rules and how to treat library materials
Research help if applicable (please let library staff know in advance if you need research help)
If you would like to customize your field trip, just let us know and we'll do our best to accomodate your request(s)
We ask the following of groups visiting the library:
Please bring whatever help you can (teachers, paraprofessionals, parents, etc.). Other library staff members will be in the building, but only the children's librarian does field trips
Please inform children and chaperones that we are not able to create or update library accounts during these visits. Cards can be created and updated during regular business hours. If parents would like to create an account for their child or if they are unsure of the status of their child's account, please encourage them to call or stop by the library prior to the field trip
Only children witih their library cards physically on them can check out items during field trips. The child's card, as well as any linked household cards, must be up to date and in good standing to check out
Children are able to check out a maximum of two items during field trips
Please refrain from allowing children to pull multiple books from the shelves if they do not intend to check them out. This creates extra work for library staff and can lead to misplaced books
Please abide by library rules (no running, eating, yelling, etc.) during your visit
